How to Keep Trusting God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

“Lord, what are You doing? I don’t understand this at all.”
Ever whispered something like that through tears?
Yeah… me too.

Sometimes life throws things at us that feel downright confusing — like getting knocked off course without a map. A diagnosis, a broken relationship, financial struggles, unanswered prayers… it all adds up, and suddenly it feels like the bottom has dropped out.

And if you’ve ever found yourself staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m. asking, “God, why me?” — this one’s for you.

You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

Let’s get this straight — trusting God doesn’t mean pretending everything’s fine.
It means leaning in even when you don’t understand.

God never asked us to be perfect. He just asks us to come to Him — questions, fears, frustrations and all.

📖 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

We don’t see the full picture, but God does. And He’s working in ways we can’t see — ways that will one day make perfect sense.

God’s Silence Isn’t His Absence

Sometimes, the quiet seasons hurt the most.

You pray, and nothing happens. You cry out, and the silence feels deafening.
But friend, just because you don’t hear God doesn’t mean He’s not working.

Think about it: when a teacher is giving a test, they’re quiet — not because they’ve left the room, but because the student already has everything they need.

God’s silence doesn’t mean He’s gone. It may just mean He’s preparing something greater behind the scenes.

💛 Faith isn’t about how loud God speaks. It’s about believing He’s there, even when He whispers.

Remember What He’s Done Before

When life doesn’t make sense, one of the best things you can do is look back.
Not to dwell — but to remember.

Think back:

  • That time you thought you wouldn’t make it through… but you did.
  • That prayer you thought went unanswered… until it was answered in a better way.
  • That situation that didn’t go how you planned… but turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

📖 “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” — Psalm 77:11

God’s past faithfulness is proof He’s not done with you yet. If He carried you through before, He’ll do it again.

It’s Okay to Feel Weak — That’s Where His Strength Shows Up

Some days, you just don’t have the strength. And that’s okay.

God isn’t asking you to muscle through the pain or smile through the storm.
He’s asking you to come to Him with your weakness and let Him carry you.

📖 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

He sees your tears. He knows your breaking point. And when you can’t take another step, He steps in.

You don’t have to hold it all together — because He’s holding you.

He’s Writing a Bigger Story Than You Can See Right Now

Here’s the hard truth: life won’t always make sense this side of heaven.

But what if the very thing you’re struggling with right now… is part of a bigger, beautiful story God is still writing?

You may not see it today. But one day, you’ll look back and see that the very thing that hurt you the most became a turning point for something greater.

God’s delays are not denials. His detours are not dead ends. And His plans are always good — even when they don’t look like it at first.

📖 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” — Romans 8:28

Final Thoughts

Life will have moments that knock the wind out of you.
Moments that don’t come with answers.
Moments that make you question everything.

But those are the very moments where faith becomes real.

Not because it’s easy. But because you choose to trust the One who sees what you can’t.

So if you’re struggling to trust God today, take a deep breath.
You’re not alone. You’re not forgotten. And you’re definitely not without hope.

God is still good. He is still with you. And He’s still writing your story.
