If I asked you to name a Bible verse that gives you strength, you might say Psalm 23. Or maybe John 3:16. Or Jeremiah 29:11. And those are all beautiful, powerful truths.
But there’s one little verse—tucked away in the New Testament—that I believe is criminally underrated. It’s not framed on many walls or stitched on throw pillows. But it has held me together more times than I can count.
It’s this:
“Jesus wept.” —John 11:35
That’s it. Two words. The shortest verse in the whole Bible.
But don’t let its size fool you. That verse holds more comfort, more honesty, and more of God’s heart than some entire chapters.
Let me tell you why it matters—especially right now, especially for you.

Jesus Could’ve Fixed It Right Away… But He Didn’t
The context of that verse? It’s the story of Lazarus. Jesus knew Lazarus was sick. He even waited a few days before going to him. And by the time He got there, Lazarus was already in the tomb.
Now here’s what gets me: Jesus knew He was about to raise Lazarus from the dead. He knew the ending would be glorious. But still…
He paused and wept.
He let Himself feel the heartbreak of Mary and Martha. He didn’t brush past their sorrow with “Oh, don’t cry—I’m about to fix it!” No. He stepped into it with them. He stood beside them. He wept with them.
That tells me something really important about the God we serve.

God Isn’t Just the Fixer—He’s the Feeler
Most of us who follow Jesus believe He can do miracles. We’ve seen it. We’ve needed it. And we pray for it.
But when the healing doesn’t come right away…
When the door stays closed…
When you’re grieving someone who’s not coming back…
…it can start to feel like maybe God is distant. Maybe He doesn’t see. Maybe He doesn’t feel what you’re walking through.
That’s why “Jesus wept” is so powerful.
Because it proves that God isn’t cold or detached. He’s not up in heaven, rolling His eyes, telling us to toughen up. He steps into our pain. He stands beside us with tears in His own eyes.
And let me say this gently: maybe that’s exactly what you needed to hear today.

If You’re Hurting Right Now, You’re Not Alone
Maybe you’ve had a week that knocked the wind out of you.
Maybe you’re holding back tears because you’re “supposed” to be strong.
Maybe you’re wondering why God hasn’t shown up the way you thought He would.
Can I tell you something, friend?
He has shown up. In your tears. In your quiet moments. In the space between prayers. He’s with you. Not just watching, but weeping with you.
And if Jesus could pause and feel pain He knew He was about to fix… you better believe He’s walking through your story with tenderness, not just power.

The Hidden Power in That Little Verse
“Jesus wept.”
That’s the kind of God we have.
Not just a Savior who saves—but a Friend who feels.
Not just a miracle-worker—but a heart-holder.
And that’s why it matters. That’s why this “little” verse might be one of the biggest ones in the whole Bible.
So if you’re feeling forgotten… or overwhelmed… or just exhausted from carrying too much for too long—please hear me:
Jesus sees you. He’s not just writing the ending of your story. He’s sitting with you in the messy middle, too. And He’s not afraid to cry with you.

Before You Go…
If that little verse has ever comforted you like it has me, maybe just pause today and whisper, “Thank You, Jesus, for weeping with me.”
Because knowing you’re not alone—really, truly not alone—that changes everything.
And if you’re in a season where the tears just won’t stop?
You’re in good company.
Jesus wept, too.
